Welcome to Wight Nitro Model Car Club WNMCC This site is designed for members, racers & non-racers alike; Whether you are checking results or thinking of getting started in the world of R/C racing we hope we can help you. This site is regularly updated with results & race dates so please keep coming back to keep up to date with our club, & racing on the Island. We are a growing club first setup up by Kevin Mouncher in 2002 from the local hobby store "Mad 4 MotorSport". Kevin’s idea was for a club with a relaxed & friendly atmosphere & a club that caters for all abilities & ages. So even if you do not own a nitro car but are interested, do come down on a race day to watch the racing, speak to like-minded people & get advice and tips. |
Racing schedule Racing is held mostly every other Sunday with people arriving from 9.30am with a aim to start racing at 10/11.00. This allows us time to set up and enter drivers onto the computer that controls and counts races, as well as getting the track ready, preparing cars and a bit of practice time. We try to finish for 5.00pm, daylight and weather permitting. Everyone gets 4 or more heats, and a final, with drivers competing against others of a similar ability wherever possible. For race dates see Permitted Cars WNMCC currently caters for 1:8th off road Buggies, Truggies and Monster trucks, nitro or electric powered. Due to power restrictions we have trouble catering for electric classes but if you have enough power of your own, either generated or with batteries you're more than welcome to come & race. Why 1:8th Rallycross? 1:8th Off-Road racing is fast, colourful, action packed & competitive. With racing at actual speeds of around 50mph, on a variety of surfaces, the racing action is guaranteed to be exciting. 1:8th Off Road or ‘Rallycross’ as it is more commonly known, is one of the expanding classes of model car racing. Although not a new class, in recent years the popularity of the nitro engine has increased immensely. 1:8th Rallycross are all four-wheel drive, powered by a 3.5cc nitro-fuelled engine with double disk brakes to bring them to a halt. All feature fully independent suspension, which is adjustable to suit the driver and the track conditions; With different spring rates, damper settings, anti-roll bars settings, and adjustable suspension, to fine tune the cars handling. Different tyre patterns and compounds complete the set-up. |

BRCA limit the fuel tank size to 125cc. This gives sufficient fuel to race in the 5 minute qualifying heats, but as the finals are either 10, 15, 20 or 30 minutes long, it is necessary to have fuel stops. For this you need to have a good mechanic to re-fuel your car, and with the closeness of the racing sometimes the finals can be won or lost on the pit stops.
One of the nice things about Rallycross racing is that you can buy, off the shelf, exactly the same specification equipment that the top drivers are using. This in turn leads to a very level playing field, and it is the skill of the driver that decides the winner.
